Eclipse Actor Kiowa Gordon says he owes his career to 'Twilight'

Kiowa Gordon says the "Twilight" phenomenon has been "very good" to him.

In fact, according to the 20-year-old actor, "I owe my entire career, at least to this point, to 'Twilight,' and I'm very grateful for that."

In the movies, which are based on author Stephenie Meyer's best-selling fantasy romance novels, Gordon plays Embry Call, one of the friends, or "wingmen," of Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

Gordon, a newcomer at the time, got the much-coveted part due in part to a lucky break. He is a member of Meyer's LDS Church ward in Arizona, and "when she told me they were casting for the movie, I jumped at the opportunity."

And he said he has enjoyed the chance to play a "strong" Native American character in the film. Gordon is a member of Arizona's Hualapai tribe, which is probably best known for maintaining and operating the Grand Canyon's "Skywalk."

"I love being able to honor my roots and my heritage, especially in movies that are so hugely popular," he said by telephone from Los Angeles.

Gordon said his mother and manager, Camille Nighthorse, has been responsible for his cultural upbringing.
Story continues below

And that will certainly be on Gordon's mind when he appears in Utah this weekend. He is one of the celebrity participants in the Native American Celebration Golf Tournament in Lehi July 23. And on July 24, Pioneer Day, he's appearing at the 16th annual Intertribal Competition Powwow in Liberty Park.

Gordon will be signing autographs in the afternoon and will be joined by other Native American entertainers, including his mother and actor/stuntman Patrick Shining Elk.

Gordon said he is "looking forward to enjoying the traditional music and entertainment."

In fact, he said he is a fan of many different music styles. He describes his band, Touche, as "progressive metal."

He and Touche got to perform at the red-carpet premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" earlier this year.

"It was fun to play our music in front of that many people," he recalled, adding that "my co-stars were even dancing on stage while we played."

Gordon and Touche were originally set to be part of this year's Vans Warped Tour bill, but "unfortunately things got too crazy and we had to drop out."

Those "things" include Gordon's busy movie career. While he's here, Gordon is expected to sign on for a feature-film project with writer/director Eric Hendershot ("Down and Derby"), titled "Phantom Justice."

He's also about to start work on "Into the Darkness," a horror film that also features Mischa Barton and John Schneider.

Then, of course, there's "Breaking Dawn," the final part of Meyer's "Twilight Saga." The fourth book will be split into two movies, which will be made under the guidance of director Bill Condon ("Dreamgirls").

To save costs, Condon and officials at Summit Entertainment decided to shoot the films back to back.

"It's going to take us several months to shoot the whole thing. It's going to be absolutely crazy," Gordon said. "We'll take a break early next year and then have to dive right back in."

Gordon said he is hoping his character will get more to do in these two films, though he knows "obviously, people aren't just going to these movies to see me, unless they're my friends or family.

"It doesn't help that my character changes shape when he goes into action, so I don't really get to do as much physically as I would like."

Still, Gordon said he is looking forward to having a career after "Twilight."

"It will be nice to do something else besides these movies," he said. "But I am a little scared at the same time. Hopefully my newfound fans will follow me along to whatever else it is I do after that."

BBC Switch: How to Become a Werewolf Skit Featuring Alex Meraz and Booboo Stewart

Kirsten Prout talks on her encounter with Jackson Rathbone in Eclipse

INSPIRE: You’ve been in numerous television series (including Kyle XY) already. How was it different stepping into a movie (Eclipse), especially one so popular worldwide?

KIRSTEN: It was definitely intimidating stepping onto a set with an established cast, all of whom are tremendously talented. On our show (Kyle XY) we had such a dynamic, so I knew what I was in for as the new kid. That being said, everyone was so welcoming and it was an absolute pleasure working on Eclipse.

I: Did you have to contemplate on the idea of being in the third installment of the series? Have you read the books?
K: To be completely honest, I wasn’t used to the idea of such a small character, but when I saw that it was for Eclipse, I realized it was such a tremendous opportunity and just being involved is enough. It has really opened doors for me and I am so grateful for the experience.

I: Although your role was brief, you were able to meet Jackson Rathbone. How was your first encounter of him like?
K: He was so wonderful, an absolute southern gentleman. Sitting down at lunch alone, my first day meeting anyone, I was thrilled when he just plopped down next to me and spent the afternoon getting to know me. He’s so talented, and such a dedicated artist. Jackson is an extremely friendly and authentic person.

I: Were expectations met when filming among the “Twilight” cast and crew? Did you meet all the cast members?
K: I didn’t have a lot of expectations other than the cast being extremely closed off and the set absolutely swamped with paparazzi. In terms of the cast, I was completely wrong. They are such wonderful inclusive people. When it comes to paparazzi, nothing prepares you for being hunted by cameras. Definitely a strange feeling.

I: Was there anything new you learned about some people you didn’t know of before? (Regarding cast members of Eclipse)
K: Jackson’s passion for music came as a real surprise. I knew he was in a band, but hearing him talk about his background, schooling, and absolute dedication was so refreshing.

I: Among all projects you’ve worked on – which has been the most memorable and fulfilling?
K: To be completely honest, Elektra was something I will always be grateful for. Jennifer [Garner] made the experience unforgettable, the stunt training was unbelievable, and my directors, producers, and crew were so supportive. I think the aftermath of Twilight has also been an eye opener in terms of figuring out the dynamics of this industry.

I: Now, you’re getting a lot of buzz because of Eclipse. Are you ready to take on more the attention you’ll be receiving throughout this year?
K: Absolutely. I have been in this industry since I was ten years old and I have had more than enough time to prepare for anything that comes my way. I love what I do and I will always be excited to take on new projects.

I: You’re in a new, currently untitled MTV movie, the sequel to “My Super Sweet 16.” Could you tell us about the plot is and who you play?
K: I am so excited about the film and am currently shooting in Atlanta. It’s the sequel to the slasher thriller My Super Psycho Sweet 16, and I definitely get to delve into a darker character, Alex Bell. All I can say is that if there is a third film, my character hands will get increasingly bloody. It’s such a tremendously talented cast, and to have a lead role that is so wonderfully written really gives me something to sink my teeth into. I love working for MTV, Jacob Gentry is such a talented director, and I sincerely believe that this film is going to make audiences fall in love with its characters as much as it did last October!

I: What kind of message will the movie convey to its potential audiences?
K: My character is extremely fragile. She’s someone who has grown up without friends, never being able to find a place where she’s comfortable. When Skye, my half sister, joins our family, she thinks she has finally found someone to relate to. But when Alex is met with a horrific tragedy, her precarious mental state is threatened to the absolute breaking point.

I: How do you think viewers will react to the film?
K: I know they will fall in love will all of the original characters all over again, and hope that this film will be met with the same enthusiasm. It’s dramatic, the deaths are just as creative as in the first movie if not more shocking, and it definitely has the right dash of playfulness to make it an absolutely wonderful viewing experience. Think Final Destination with an indie heart.

I: Hollywood is a complicated industry. What do you enjoy about being a part of it and what do you dislike about it?
K: This industry is not fair. Period. It never has been, and never will be. I know so many actors who are tremendously talented that have never seen the success as people with half their potential. It really takes an infinite well of hope, determination, and optimism that’s definitely hard to maintain. Sometimes you watch people around you get that fluke role that skyrockets them. All I try to remember is everyone’s journey is different, and I fight the fight to do what I love. Staying true to yourself and your own craft is the most important part.

I: What are some obstacles you’ve faced in this business?
K: It’s definitely a different experience as a child. I was viciously bullied in high school for having an unconventional life. I think it’s very easy to grow up fast, but luckily my family supported me enough to make me realize that if you love what you do, nothing else matters.

I: What do you hope for yourself in the future? Who would you care to
work with?
K: Everyone gives the conventional answer of working with the greats. I really crave experiences that are intensive and challenging. I’m always hope for strong scripts that allow you to submerge yourself in the journey. I look for great characters and love working with actors who are present – Viggo Mortensen would be a dream to work with.

I: As a working actress, is it difficult to maintain a low-profile
personal life?
K: I think that if you are selective about the company you keep and respectful to others, it’s easier to just live like a normal nineteen year old. Crazy behavior attracts crazy rumors. Just having fun and not going overboard with people you love and trust is attainable if you go about things the right way. Look at Natalie Portman. She has been quoted saying that she lived a normal life due to the kinds of people who surrounded her and supported her.

I: What made you want to leap into entertainment? What stimulated your
love for this career?
K: I think my imagination was cultivated in loneliness. I didn’t have many friends and escaped on movie sets. I am the most comfortable while working, I love having a relationship with the characters I play.

Twilight Costume Designer Tish Monaghan on dressing the Twilight stars on Eclipse

SELF: How is Bella's look in Eclipse different from in New Moon?
Tish Monaghan: Well, it's funny because the movies come out a year apart, but onscreen, only a week has passed. With Bella [Kristen Stewart], she's a little more settled in public and in her relationship with Edward. And so, at the beginning, I wanted to show a little bit more of a relation to the Cullens' colors, a cool palate, and steer away from the warm earth tones that were more evident in New Moon.

There are quite a few romantic scenes, so I wanted to show a softer side of Bella without going too girly or feminine, because that's just not at the heart of who she is. She's a very practical person, so I tried to soften her up a bit with color. We open up with her wearing one of her signature plaid shirts, but it's in a softer, lilac fabric and looks very pretty in a field of flowers. We tried to retain the integrity of her character, but just lighten her up a little.

And how about for the boys?
In New Moon, Edward [Robert Pattinson] is essentially in a suit throughout most of the movie because he almost gets frozen in time on the night of Bella's birthday party, when the tragedy occurs. So he sports that look of a restrained, contained individual throughout the film. I wanted to ensure that in Eclipse, we brought him back into the world of a grade twelve student. I wanted to make a point of getting him back to t-shirts and jeans and sneakers, a more casual look while maintaining the Cullen's flavor, which is always a little more styled - I mean, he's never going to look too rough and ready. We wanted to get him out of the gentlemanly quotient and into clothes that look good and fit nicely, but seem a little more youthful. For Jacob, the only thing I changed was I put him into some cutoff cargo shorts instead of cutoff jeans. We ended up using a lot of the same t-shirts because they fit him so well.

It must be fun to dress Ashley Greene as Alice, the fashionista of the family.
It's fun to go out and look for the cutest, girliest and edgiest things you can find. We bought her a really great Marc Jacobs' dress that she wears in an opening scene at school, and a really adorable fitted little A-line coat that we got from Anthropologie. It's just nice to find these little feminine lines with a lot of detail and a cute little belt, great tuft detail, little bow at the back. I know she really particularly loved that one, a little taupe plaid.

Bella, on the other hand, at Bella's graduation party, she wears jeans and a button-up shirt and everyone else is dressed to the nines. Bella dresses for practicality. We got a really nice dark-green hoodie by Voeu T Laxe at Fred Segal - that would be her signature piece for Eclipse. She's also got this great grey American Eagle jacket that she wears for most of the final sequence of the movie when she's climbing up into the mountains and a Lole burgundy shell with a nice little female shape.

Where are you usually shopping for the characters?
Well, we had to be able to buy in quantity - especially with stunt doubles. The characters would have to have six of each outfit for themselves, and then four or five for their stunt doubles. So we weren't spending tons of money on each outfit! We went to G-star, Club Monaco, Armani Exchange, H&M, Banana Republic. All the brands you see in the movie are out there in the public domain.

Eclipse has a lot more action than the first two movies - how did you dress the characters for their fight scenes?
With all of the workout wear, we wanted to create a look that was slick, sleep and functional. They could look good and make a visual statement, but be ready for action. Emmett had a lot of action, so I wanted him to stand out more than others. I gave him an Old Navy hoodie with a beautiful tone to it. I didn't buy it at Old Navy because it was cheap, I bought it because it was a creamy off-white reminiscent of the color he wore in the original Twilight. When everyone came in for their fittings, we would ensure that they could lift their legs high enough when they were running - sometimes we would get them a larger pair of jeans for certain sequences just so that they did have that movement. You don't have to stick to just workout wear - we would end up getting a cute hoodie at H&M. I just wanted to give the characters something the audience could interpret as "OK, this is what the Cullens wear when they're out exercising." But, again, it's form-fitting clothing they can move in.

cullenfamily.jpg

Bonus: Find out how the Twilight stars stay in shape on set!

What brands were you using as workout gear?
We used Mountain Engineering Co-op, a Canadian outdoor company, North Face, Nike, the Gap. We would bring them everything for all kinds of scenes - J Brand, 7 for All Mankind, etc. - and it ended up being Gap that they'd love and go buy for themselves. I didn't want everybody in jeans, but I certainly wasn't going to put them in sweatpants or anything like that. And then when we moved to the very final sequence where they have the fight with the newborn vampires, I wanted to make it look like they were really dressed for action and I put them in very very dark colors, like black or almost black.

Eclipse also uses flashbacks to give us some background on the histories of the Cullens and the Quileute indians.
These movies are awesome for a costume designer because we were able to go back into three different time periods, as well as the contemporary world. We had Jasper, who used to be a Confederate soldier - he was one of my favorite characters to dress for this sequence because I love research. We found a source that made Confederate uniforms for reenactments, and we probably put about forty hours of over-dying and aging into it so he looked real and presentable when he's riding across the rolling hills, kicking up dust on his horse.

And with Rosalie, who has a flashback to the 1930s, we were able to use some pieces that were original '30s costumes. Then we had to make a wedding dress for her that had a 30-foot train and long, billowing veil for the scene when she's coming down this long hotel hallway with her mind set on attacking her fiancé who had actually almost killed her. It's a fantastic scene, because there's this transition from her being this sweet 18-year-old woman who's madly in love with her elegant, wealthy - and, unbeknownst to her, evil - fiance.

The most exciting part, to me, was recreating the Quileute indians - we would read diaries and shipping logs from Spanish explorers who sailed along the Pacific coast, we would study paintings from the era by traveler Paul Kane, and we studied original garments at the Museum of Archeology in Canada. We had to make, I would say, sixty costumes, including a costume for Bella, because she transitions into the role of one of the Quileute characters, the chief's wife. We worked on those garments for probably about six weeks with a team of about eight people: we made jewelry from abalone shells, we interwove different colored pieces of wool blankets into white blankets, we made shoes for them out of rough cord, we made our main garments out of groundcover which is incredibly itchy for the people wearing it, and we made a cedar cape - big rough wraps of twine and hemp that ended up looking, you know, in the big brushes as if they were woven cedar. It was really a challenge, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out.

Buy Bella's (Kristen Stewart) retro sunglasses wore in Eclipse

When Eclipse premiered June 30, I knew Style Hunter would be inundated with questions about Bella, Edward and the rest of the Cullen clan’s clothing choices for months to come. But nothing from the film garnered as much as attention as the cat-eye sunglasses Bella wore while visiting her mom in Florida.

I went straight to source and spoke to Eclipse‘s costume designer Tish Monaghan, who revealed that these retro shades were actually just a pair of lower-priced knock-offs that Kristen Stewart picked out of 100 different options collected by props master Grant Swain.

To save you the hassle of trolling the streets for our own off-the-sidewalk pair, we’ve handpicked three similar style options that’ll help you copy Bella’s retro look:

* Proenza Schouler’s extended cat eye sunglasses ($290; lagarconne.com)
* Ray-Ban’s “Cats 1000″ sunglasses ($170; asos.com)
* Fred Flare’s “Bridget” sunglasses ($11; fredflare.com)

Eclipse actor Jackson Rathbone in Nylon "Obviously, I'm going to star in Twilight the musical."

Does anyone call you by your real first name, Monroe?  I still go by Monroe when I am in trouble with the law.

Which is… often?  Very rarely; very rarely. I don’t get so much as a speeding ticket these days but I am a habitual parking violator.

I know M. Night Shyamalan is famous for his secrecy.  But what can you tell us about The Last Airbender?
Well I can say it is going to be an amazing action film; it’s got the most incredible CGI. We got ILM working on it, which is Industrial Lights and Magic, and it truly is magic, honestly, at the end of the day. We are shooting on the green screen, we have a character called Appa?  Which is a big bison kind of flying bear creature?  And that’s me, I’m a big flying bear creature.

Nice try.  Okay, no, but I get to ride it.

Not a real flying bear?   No, I rode a fuzzy saddle. It was about 15-20 feet off the ground.  It’s on this kind of rocking thing… They were moving it, and there is a big green screen behind you. Night’s yelling, “Okay, you’re flying through the air now!” You’re like, “Okay, I am flying through the air now.”  And oh yeah, I had to be flying through the air, and no, I wasn’t on any drugs.

Maybe there was good liquor on set?   I can hold my liquor! I’m from the South, come on now. You know, I love Jameson Whiskey, and I love Bud Light, I keep it pretty simple.  I was actually in a bar recently, and they only had three beers on tap, and it was Bud with lime on tap! I had to give the bar tender a little, you know, guff for that one. Are you kidding me? You don’t even have Bud Light on tap? You don’t even have Lonestar on tap? You only have Bud Light Lemon-Lime?!

I hope you lamented about your lime beer problems during your Last Airbender audition.  Oh, I didn’t have to audition.  I actually had my part delivered by an owl, followed by a list of magical school supplies… No, no, I did the normal auditioning process. Actually I had auditioned for M. Night’s The Happening before… then I met Night and we hit it off.

I heard in an M. Night movie, you don’t ever see the full script….  At the audition you only get the lines you’re gonna say, but  this movie in particular based off the Nickelodeon animated series, so it’s a departure from Night’s thrillers. It’s about finding the hero within against all odds, and it’s got some of the most incredible action sequences, with all of these characters being able to manipulate the elements and being able to throw fire and throw water to block it… However, my character only gets to throw a boomerang.  That’s not as rock n’ roll as being able to bend water.

So you can't bend water.  What else can’t you do?  Iron. You want to watch me iron, you’ll see how bad I am. I like my clothes wrinkled anyway, so it’s fine. But one of my band mates taught me a trick; his name is Lawrence Abrams and he’s a jazz musician; he’s about 56 years old. He taught me the old put it on a coat hanger and put it in the shower and let it steam up a bit. First time I did it though, I put it in the shower, and that was wrong. You don’t put it in the shower because it gets wet.  See?  I learned.

You’re an actor with a band, 100 Monkeys.  Do you think you’ll do anything to combine those two passions?  Obviously, I’m going to star in Twilight the musical.  The scary thing is, I bet they’re totally making one, like, right now!

'Eclipse' Star Jackson Rathbone Has A Message For All The Twi-Moms Out There (Video)

Chaske Spencer's Message About Battling His Addiction and Encourages Others How To Deal With It.

The Eclipse actor Chaske Spencer answers through his official website the spreading rumours about being gone from Rehab because of addiction and the allegation that Chaske was an addict who only got clean in a hurry so he could function on the New Moon set.

“Personal Message from Chaske Spencer Setting the Record Straight

To all the wonderful, incredibly loyal fans:

For those of you that read that I was in rehab, I wanted to make sure you heard the truth from me directly. Yes it is true, that I was in rehab, however it was over 19 months ago, long before NEW MOON was even on my radar. It was a pivotal time in my life where I was lucky enough to have supportive friends and family to help me get healthy. I am grateful that I have been clean and sober now for 19 months and cannot imagine my life if I had continued using drugs and alcohol. Almost everything else that was written about this is blatantly false and we are exploring our legal options. That was my past, and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to create a new future for myself. I encourage anyone who is in a similar place to seek support from their friends and family and know that without them, I would not have had the chance to be where I am now.

I want to thank all of you for the support you have shown, and continue to show. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Chaske “

Roberts Pattinson talks about Bel Ami, Water for Elephants, and to play Kurt Cobain in the Nirvana movie?

Have your mates ever called you Edward by mistake?People have called me Edward – not family, that would be weird! My mates might have done it to rib me. They don’t really know about Twilight, but some of them found out about this R-Pattz thing, so now one of them always calls me R-Pattz, which he thinks is hilarious.

Edward can read thoughts. If we could hear your thoughts, what would they sound like?Complete silence, dust blowing in the wind. Or maybe just like white noise…

What aspects of Edward do you most identify with? It’s changed a bit in this film. In the first two, I guess there was his feeling that you can’t relate to anyone, or no one can relate to you. I was like, ’I never want to talk to anyone’. I used to feel like that when I was younger. I’ve grown up now.

Are you a traditionalist, like Edward? It is quite pronounced in the movie, and I respect that, but when I work on other films, I want to play really amoral characters. I don’t feel like I have to stand by his values, but I respect them. I guess courtship is a good thing, but only if it’s pleasurable. Some people meet each other in a bar and sleep with each other that night, then stay with each other for the rest of their lives. Or they could stay with each other and never get married. It just doesn’t make any difference.

You definitely play an amoral character in your next film, Bel Ami.Yes. There’s something fun about Bel Ami, going from Edward to some guy who pretty much abuses women to get money out of them. Edward so wouldn’t approve – and I thought that was a funny irony. In Bel Ami all the women my character screws over are all attracted to him to begin with, so he starts having affairs with them and destroys their lives.

You are much less intense than Edward, clearly…I don’t know, I guess in a lot of ways. I think the main thing is he’s very extreme in his way of thinking, and I’m not like that. I don’t think in such absolutes, like ’I can’t be with this girlfriend, I’m going to kill myself!’ It’s quite a teenage thing.
Can you go out anywhere without being mobbed? In LA, sometimes I can. I wish I still had the beard I wore for Bel Ami. It was a good disguise. But LA is definitely harder than London, although London’s changed recently. The good thing about Britain in that respect is that people are often too embarrassed to come and say stuff. They’re embarrassed to have even seen you. I used to go into the same HMV shop all the time and they had New Moon posters everywhere, and I was worried I’d get stalked, but the guys at the counter would not even look at me, even though there were posters everywhere.

How hard is it to dodge the paps in London?I can’t believe I was photographed recently going to buy underpants with my best friend in Marks & Spencer. They were 5ft away – we were going to have this nice little day, and they photographed me buying underpants!

So you can laugh it off?Yeah, the only time things matter is when people start calling my family for stories. That gets in the way. 99 per cent of stuff is just made up. The thing is, the more stuff is reported, the more it starts to affect your career. If you’re constantly in gossip magazines people think, ’He’s not a proper actor, he’s just a gossip person.’

Do you want to step out of the limelight?I want to produce a film. It would be so satisfying to turn up to work and not have to go into costume or make-up. You stand behind the monitor and don’t even have the responsibility of the director.

You recently said you think you might be dead by 30. What was that about?I was talking about luck running out. When I was doing interviews for Harry Potter, I was thinking, ’I don’t want this to be all the luck in my life.’ So now I’m getting ridiculously lucky and I wonder if I might suffer some punishment at the hands of the universe and be dead by the time I’m 30. I like to believe in fate, so I’m not responsible for anything!

You’re working with animals on Water For Elephants. How’s that?Almost every day I’m working with an exotic animal; there are scenes where I’m leading buffalo and elephants into cages. It’s insane, like I got bitten on the arm by a lion with no teeth. They were like, ’It’s fine, he does it all the time.’ And I was like, ’Erm, OK…’ But they had to get him to do it harder, because he was being so gentle and just licking my arm.

Is it true you’re going to play Kurt Cobain in the Nirvana movie?Sometimes these things just appear. I love Nirvana, but I love them a bit too much – I’d be embarrassed. And you see all these comments, like from Courtney Love, saying ’What the f*ck! He’s totally wrong for it’, and I’m like, ’I f*cking said no, you d*ck!’ I didn’t get offered it. For one thing, I’m too tall, and I can’t sing like him, I’m nothing like him!’ It’s ridiculous.

DID YOU KNOW?Rob hired Lady GaGa’s trainer to get in shape for the film. We still don’t think he’s as buff as Taylor, but he’s got a lovely (Poker) Face.

Eclipse costume designer Tish Monaghan reveals secrets and trivia from the movie

• Robert Pattinson wanted to wear karate pants for the training sequence. “So we got him some karate pants, and it’s like the crotch hangs down to the knees, and I just thought, Ugh. Who’s gonna go for this? Because everything has to be approved by Summit,” Monaghan says. “We took them in a little bit, and they loved the karate pants. Who knew? I was so surprised.”

• Even at the film’s premiere, people squealed when Taylor Lautner turned around in that black T-shirt. “It was almost embarrassing. I felt so bad for him,” Monaghan says, with a laugh. “They were screaming and going ‘Wooooo!’” As she’d done on New Moon, her M.O. was to put him in smaller size Gap or Banana Republic T-shirts to emphasize his biceps, tightening the tees around the arm holes and taking them in down the side. (Pattinson wore Gap T-shirts, exclusively, she adds. “They were what fit him best. They had the best colors. So that’s what he ended up wearing, even when Edward takes Bella up to the tent. It may strike people as odd, but he doesn’t feel temperature, so that’s why we only put him in a shirt, and Bella’s all bundled up, and Jacob, of course, is running around shirtless.”

• Rosalie’s wedding dress was the star of a deleted scene: For Rosalie’s flashback to the 1930s, Monaghan’s department both rented original period dresses and made two ensembles — the one she wore when she was attacked, and her wedding dress. “Unfortunately in the film, we only see her arriving at the door,” Monaghan says, of the latter’s entrance. “I’m not sure why the scene with her floating down the hallway was cut out — maybe it’s because the element of surprise had a stronger impact. They didn’t want us to know in advance who was coming to the door. But we made a silk train for her that floated down the hallway as she kind of hydroplaned down the carpet. [Actress Nikki Reed] was mounted on a contraption, almost like a bicycle seat, and the camera was in front of her and to the side, and she just when whoooooooosh. She was rolled down the hallway at quite the speed and a fan would blow up her veil so that it was trailing behind her. It looked wonderful. The train itself was probably about 10 or 12 feet, and then the veil went beyond that.”

• Riley (Xavier Samuel) has great taste in victims: “The sensibility of all of the newborns, including Riley, is that they’re scavengers. They’re going to steal pieces from whomever they find. Riley just happened to find somebody who was wearing a G-Star jacket and some really cool jeans,” Monaghan says, with a laugh. “Once he was turned, I just wanted to put him in something that was edgy and very contemporary. We wanted to make him young and powerful but still have this kind of dark sexiness to him. We found this great G-Star jacket for him and tight, tight jeans and a beautiful Paul Smith shirt. And then he had one other change after that, which was the same jacket and tight reddish maroon jeans, which for us was important because once he got into battle with the Cullens and the werewolves, we had to separate the newborns from the Cullens color-wise. We had to make sure that there wasn’t any confusion as to who was on whose team when a body was flying through the air. So with the Cullens, we intentionally put them in black, dark navy or dark gray. With the newborns, we put them in earth tones and hints of brighter colors.”

• There’s a bit of old Victoria in new Victoria. “Because of the transition from Rachelle Lefevre to Bryce Dallas Howard, we decided that the first time that we saw Victoria, we should definitely put her into pieces of the costume that we had last seen Victoria wearing in New Moon, just so that the audience, aside from her large mane of tangled red hair, would definitely know that this is who that character is. There’s all these things that you work on so hard, and then it ends up becoming such a subliminal thing,” Monaghan says. “Gradually, we transitioned out of that into something a little bit different to make it Bryce’s own character. Because she was going to be courting Riley, I wanted something that was dark and foreboding but still sensual, because she has to lure him. We made a black lace top with a zipper that kind of went around her neck, and you could unzip it as far down the front as was necessary. Just a romantic/punk look. It works really well with her red hair, and her skin showed through, and you could see that she was being a little bit of a siren and trying to work her magic on Riley.”

• Emmett wears lighter colors than the other Cullens to showcase Kellan Lutz’s muscles. “Absolutely,” Monaghan says, when asked if this theory about his Old Navy hoodie is correct. “I also knew that the focus was going to be on him and his chase with Victoria in the woods, so I just really wanted to make sure that he stood out amongst all the dark backgrounds…. You probably won’t notice, but I made a very conscious decision to have the Cullens move through the color palette. They’re in lighter colors when they first hunt Victoria. The next big scene, when they’re in their workout wear, they’re in sort of midtones. Then when they have the final battle, that’s when I put them all in black, because I wanted them to be more stealth-like.”

• A lot of work goes into seconds of screen time. Take the newborn army Jasper (Jackson Rathbone, in a uniform purchased from a company that clothes reenactment societies, then aged as though he’d been riding in the desert for months) trained in his Civil War flashback. “It’s so fast, but for us, we have to do the work and prepare for that scene just as much as we would for any character,” Monaghan says. “They were scavengers from the 1800s, so it was a mix of garments that they grabbed from different armys, bankers, merchants, hookers.” The siren who turned him and leads the army is actually wearing his jacket and sash over her skirt. “That’s just me trying to show the link between the two of them,” she says. “For us, it’s the challenge in doing all of these thematic linkings that makes our job worthwhile. It’s important to do it, even if nobody else notices.”

• It takes a village to build a village. Unearthing what the Quileute tribe would have been wearing in the 1700s, before photography, was another challenge. Monaghan turned to ship logs from explorers who landed on the Pacific Coast and described the natives’ jewelry, their cedar bark clothing, and their dog-haired blankets. She looked at works by artist Paul Kane, and visited two Canadian museums of archeology with extensive native artifacts unearthed from burial sites. “We took all of this, and we said, ‘How are we gonna make this cheaply?’ Because we found someone was selling a recreated cedar cape online for $25,000 a garment. We ended up making them out of ground cover used in landscaping. We got something like 200 feet for $25,” Monaghan says. “So I had a whole team of people who made it one-time wear. We went to a taxidermist, and we got bones. We went to restaurants and got mussel shells. We went to another place and got abalone shells, which we used for our jewelry. We made hats out of straw baskets from Chinatown. We used wool blankets and raw silk. I was so happy with the outcome of recreating the Quileute village in the 1700s. I just thought it worked spectacularly for its, I think, 10 seconds of screen time.”

• You almost saw Kristen Stewart in a swimsuit. That’s what Bella was wearing in the script when she was saying goodbye to her mother and the sun. “Realistically, that’s never gonna look good on anybody if they’re just lying there. If they’re gonna dive into a pool and swim, maybe,” Monaghan says. “I just approached the director and said, ‘Listen, can we just do cutoffs or something instead?’ I think originally, we were going to shoot on location [in Florida], but instead, we shot in Vancouver. The temperature was not warm at all, and we wanted to keep them comfortable as well.”

ReelzChannel: Phoenix Fans ‘Eclipse’ Reactions

Jodelle Ferland On Her Eclipse Role: 'There Was No Way I Was Going To Say No'

Jodelle Ferland  is creating buzz as Bree Tanner in Eclipse, you know #1 movie in the country, the  that we've all seen at least twice now. We caught up with the 15-year-old, who confessed she's on Team Edward "most of the time," on the phone last month and discovered that not only did she read all the Twilight books back-to-back, but she signed on for the role of Bree without even reading the script! We also asked her about her plans for the Eclipse premiere black carpet.

"Oh yeah, I have a dress ready," she told us before the premiere. "And I'm very excited for it. I always like to have a dress in my closet that I can just pull out in case of an emergency. I bought a dress a while ago and I'm pretty sure I don't have anything else I'll need a fancy dress for before the premiere so that could be what I'm wearing. It's a pretty light color."

Not sure if the dress in the photo above is the light-colored dress she was talking about, it's light underneath the black lace, or if she switched dresses at the last minute. Keep reading for more of our Q&A with Jodelle and let us know what you thought of her Eclipse performance in the comments. Too bad she got killed in the movie, but maybe Summit will make a movie of  The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner  (someone start an online petition).

Is it true you didn't read the Eclipse script before you signed on to play Bree?
Normally when I do movies I usually read the script before I do it, but before 'Eclipse' I had a good idea of what the script would be like because I read the boolks and there was just no way I was going to say no. As soon as I found out I got the part and started to prep for the movie, I was allowed to read it.
What was your audition like?
It was the same as any other audition process but the audition normally I get something from the script to read, but for 'Eclipse' it was a scene from the book because they didn't want any of the script to get out at all so I had to read the Bree scene from the book in my audition.

What was it like being the new girl on set?

I was a bit worried about that, but there wasn't any problem. They all made me feel welcomed and I had a good time. I actually worked with Kristen Stewart [on The Messengers] before the whole 'Twilight' thing started so that was good that I knew somebody already.

When did you find out about the book?
I actually knew about the book [The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner] before I started filming. Right before I started filming 'Eclipse' I was allowed to read it so that I could understand Bree better because there's not a lot about her in the 'Eclipse' book so I was very lucky that I got to read that before anyone even knew it existed.

Did you keep it?
I wasn't allowed to keep it. I had to go to the set and read it and they were supposed to destroy it. We were on location so we didn't have shredder or anything like that so we put it in a bucket and burnt it. It was very fun. We took a video and took a picture and sent it to Stephenie and she put the picture on her site.

Jack Huston Talks About His Role as Royce King in ‘Eclipse’

Details: In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, you play the former fiancĂŠ of Edward's sister, Rosalie. How did you land the part?
Jack Huston: I auditioned for another part—a newborn vampire—and kind of shocked the producers. I acted like a junkie. I hadn't slept the night before and had drunk lots of coffee. Everyone was like, "Um, a little too edgy." But they liked me enough to offer me this part instead.

Details: What's it like to be part of the Twilight phenomenon?
Jack Huston: I have never seen anything like it, actually. I turned up for shooting and, literally, everyone was there—children, teenagers, 20-year-olds, mothers, older ladies. There was an English teacher, who had saved up her time off and flown from England to Vancouver to put herself up in the same hotel as the cast. She sat in the lobby all day, just to see them walk out. That's a little extreme, but I like her dedication.

Details: Your character isn't a nice guy. Have any rabid fans confronted you yet?
Jack Huston: They haven't said anything to me yet. I'm safe for now. But imagine if it turns nasty and they camp outside my house with knives. That would be terrible. "Stop attacking me! I'm really a nice guy! I am not a rapist!"

Details: Your next project is the hotly anticipated HBO Prohibition-era drama Boardwalk Empire. Any spoilers?
Jack Huston: Martin Scorsese shot the pilot, and it's going to look like a Scorsese movie. It takes place in Atlantic City during the 1920s, in the early days of organized crime. My character's come back from the war, and things have happened to him. He's not really an on-the-boardwalk kind of person. I can't reveal too much, but he wants to hide. I had to alter a lot about my appearance for the role.

Details: Like growing a mustache?
Jack Huston: I've had a mustache in a few things now. I think I've become the go-to mustache man. It works in period pieces. Modern-day mustaches are probably creepy. But I get compliments—everyone's like, "Wow, love the 'stache, dude."

Details: You're filming in New York. What have you been doing when you're not shooting?
Jack Huston: Filming in New York has been nice, but like an idiot I've just been up in my room working. I tend to do that when I travel for work. Just sitting in my hotel room getting stuff done: reading, going over scripts, rewriting little bits. Like a recluse. I am Howard Hughes at the moment. I'm pissing in bottles.

Details: What's the set like?
Jack Huston: We are at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn. They built this incredible boardwalk. It blows your mind. When the show ends, apparently it's going to stay there because it's become this attraction. You can see a time line of them building it on YouTube. All from nothing.

Details: Is it true you've filmed a movie with Al Pacino?
Jack Huston: It's been a couple years now, I think. I did a day's work on this Oscar Wilde movie he's doing called Wilde Salome. He must have hundreds of hours of film now, and he's still editing. I've seen it maybe six times, and I've seen six different movies—each time it's a different film. For a week or so we were going to Al's every night, eating fruit salad, and talking about the part.

Details: Fruit salad?
Jack Huston: "Fruit salad, Al? Seven days in a row?! Can you bring me some fucking prosciutto?" [Laughs] I can't say enough about Al. There is no man as invested in what he does.

Details: You come from a famous family. Do you feel pressure to live up to the name?
Jack Huston: My grandpa didn't get started until he was in his mid-forties. My aunt Anjelica started in her thirties after modeling for a long time. My uncle Danny really started in his late thirties. I guess we're just late bloomers. I started early compared to them, so there's no pressure.

Details: Did they steer you into the family business?
Jack Huston: I was in England, so I was always very separate from them. But Anjelica did say that she thought it would be a good idea if I came to America, which really spurred me to make the move. But we never really talk about the craft or anything like that. They gave me advice, but more as one's own aunt or uncle or mother or father would do. Just like a normal family.

Details: They must have taught you a few things about Hollywood.
Jack Huston: I went to the Academy Awards with my aunt when I was, like, 19, and I remember walking the red carpet. I think that put me off ever wanting to do it again. I was just shell-shocked. There are so many people, and they are literally yelling at you! I fucking freaked out! I downed, like, four drinks and got hammered.

Details: Has dating Cat Deeley, the host of So You Think You Can Dance, made you better at handling the flashbulbs?
Jack Huston: She gets recognized when we go out, not me. It's like that scene from Forgetting Sarah Marshall—"Hey, Lurch! Get out of the picture."

'Eclipse' spawns a new star in Xavier Samuel

When Australian actor Xavier Samuel shipped off an audition tape to Twilight producers, insta-fame seemed oceans away.

"It's kind of strange because you send them off into oblivion and you don't know if anyone watches them," says Samuel, 26.

That was last year.

Fast-forward to the Eclipse premiere, where thousands of fans are not only screaming but are screaming for him. "It's kind of 360 degrees of hysteria," Samuel says just hours before the Los Angeles premiere of the third film installment of Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster series. "The sound (of Twilight's fans) does really knock you off your feet."

Samuel steals not only the first five minutes of one of most anticipated movies of the summer, but much of its finale. He plays newborn vampire Riley Biers, who, alongside vengeful vamp Victoria, leads a bloodthirsty army of young vampires with one goal: killing human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and those who protect her.

Hailing from Adelaide, he now joins Hollywood's short list of hot young Aussie men in the spotlight, including brothers Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) and Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), and Sam Worthington (Avatar).

There was only one problem en route to the Eclipse set.

"I was going through the book going, where's Riley?" says Samuel, whose character gets a major upgrade in the screenplay version of Eclipse. But director David Slade slipped him an early top-secret copy of Meyer's recent novella, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, in which Riley and Victoria's relationship is more deeply explained.

Joining the ranks of Robert Pattinson, Stewart and Taylor Lautner, "I ought to feel ostracized, but everyone was wonderfully down to earth," says Samuel, who found battling a CGI werewolf in the wilds of Canada more challenging than making friends. "You're just working with a piece of fur on the end of a stick just kind of poking you," he says with a laugh.

The son of parents who teach history and English, the dry-humored Samuel, whose younger brother Benedict is finishing up acting school and whose sister Bridget is an opera stage manager, cut his teeth playing Hamlet in college, later appearing in a smattering of movies on the film festival circuit, including Newcastle, September and The Loved Ones.

Mom Maree now keeps tabs on his Google status (a quick search for her son's name snags upward of 900,000 hits). "She's kind of made it her mission to monitor the info on me on the Internet, which is an impossible task," he says.

That includes the rumor that Samuel ditched his supposed band to follow his film career. "Completely untrue," he says, though he did tote his acoustic guitar to Vancouver to relax between shoots and workouts. "I don't have a burning ambition to be a rock star or anything," he says, instead listing other musical favorites: The National, the Very Best and the Magnetic Fields.

Fellow Eclipse newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard, 29, (who takes over the role of Victoria from Rachelle LeFevre) seduces young Riley in the film.

In real life, Samuel calls the two especially good friends. "She's so professional and she works harder than anyone I've ever met in my life," he says of Howard, who even offered the temporarily homeless actor her couch in L.A. once filming wrapped.

Samuel spent two weeks hanging out with Howard's young family, "really wonderful people," he says of her husband, Seth Gabel, and their young son, Theo. Although he's now renting in West Hollywood, he recently attended Theo's third birthday party and noshed on barbecue with Bryce's rather famous father, director Ron Howard.

Did he schmooze his way into a film? "I don't know if I'd be so lucky," he quips. "I haven't really broached the subject with Ron yet."

Famous friends aside, navigating a new career post-franchise can be tricky (read: Megan Fox), but so far, Samuel is taking the offers as they come, having just returned from shooting historical thriller Anonymous in Berlin, which decodes the true author of Shakespeare's works.

"I went from playing an evil vampire to an Elizabethan aristocrat, which is a great thing to do," he says.

And now? "I don't have a plan of action," he says. "I just want an experience that challenges me as an actor and pushes me to get better."

David Slade Thanks Eclipse Fans on Facebook

Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade wrote the a letter to Eclipse fans on his  official Twilight Saga movie facebook which just reached the 8 million fan mark over the weekend making it one of the largest Facebook online communities.
“When you put your heart and soul into something as intense as the duration of a film production, you become completely lost in it. You focus on doing your very best to get it right each day and you work on this for so long that you assume an ownership of it.
When shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, I always felt an awareness of how many people this film would reach and as a result, knew that this film did not just belong to myself, the producers and the studio, but more so, to all of you, the fans of The Twilight Saga.
At the end of the day, after all the hard work is done, all that’s left is the film itself, and your overwhelmingly positive and supportive responses have made me feel like we must have done something right. As a filmmaker, this is a rare and strange feeling of connection with an audience of which I will never forget and I thank you all for it.

'Eclipse' Breaks Wednesday Record But Falls Short of 'New Moon'

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse drained more of its opening day demand with its midnight launch than The Twilight Saga: New Moon did. Despite setting the midnight record with over $30 million, Eclipse's full day came in at $68.5 million, falling short of New Moon's $72.7 million record ($26.3 million of which from its midnight debut). Their first days, though, didn't have a precise apples-to-apples comparison, because Eclipse started on Wednesday, while New Moon was on a Friday.

Playing on approximately 8,000 screens at an opening-record 4,416 locations, Eclipse still had a phenomenal debut, setting two other records. The vampire romance sequel boasted the largest Wednesday gross of all time, surpassing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's $62 million. It also logged the top-grossing summer day ever, surpassing The Dark Knight's $67.2 million.

Overall, Eclipse posted the second highest-grossing single day of all time, behind only its predecessor.

The last time June 30 landed on Wednesday and Independence Day landed on Sunday was in 2004. That's when Spider-Man 2 established the record for that holiday. It made $40.4 million on its Wednesday opening, or the equivalent of around $52 million adjusted for ticket price inflation. By its sixth day, it had pulled in $180.1 million, or more than $230 million adjusted.
